Miho Skvrce: At the Edges of Reality

Contemporary Dubrovnik photographer Miho Skvrce presents works from his polaroid series At the Edges of Reality. Educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, Skvrce is deeply fascinated by blurred reality and monochromatic scenes. By placing misted glass in front of the lens he creates unique reflections that form layered narratives, revealing subtle shadows, contours and the mystique of space.

Begun in 2018, the series records abandoned, desolate locations devoid of human presence, where the reflection in the cloudy glass becomes a metaphysical dialogue between observer and reality. With no digital manipulation, the photographs inhabit the liminal zone between the real and the spiritual, inviting inner silence and contemplation.

“I stage a series of monochrome records, shooting through various filters and fogged glass, outlining contours and hints of the world’s interiors and exteriors,” explains Skvrce. “I prefer black and white photography for its purity and timelessness, which enhances form and lends emotional depth impossible to convey in colour.”

His work is a quiet meditation on space and time, an abstract bridge between the outer world and inner reflections, where reality is viewed through a prism of aesthetics and spirituality.
