Materia Book Club vol 4 - 'Goddesses in Everywoman'
"Every woman carries a potential heroine inside her. She is the protagonist of her own life story of a journey that begins with her birth and continues throughout her life. On her way, she will encounter suffering, loneliness, vulnerability and uncertainty, and will learn about limitations. But on that path, she could also find meaning, develop strenght, experience love and mercy, and gain wisdom". - Jean Shinoda Bolen
“Goodesses in Everywoman” is a classic work of female psychology that uses seven archetypcal goddesses as a way of describing behavior patterns and personality traits. The book written by psychoanalyst Jean Bolen was a perfect choice for our fourth Book Club event. Dr. Bolen introduced different patterns in the guise of seven archetypal goddesses, or personality types, with whom all women could identify, from the autonomous Artemis and the cool Athena to the nurturing Demeter and the creative Aphrodite, and explains how to decide which to cultivate and which to overcome, and how to tap the power of these enduring archetypes to become a better "heroine" in one's own life story.
As always, an interesting discussion developed and it was inspiring to hear different experiences about the book as well as touch on many other life issues. Beautiful women, wonderful energy, matcha latte, snacks from Noel Bread and Deli & rose wine Miraval from Vivat Fina Vina contributed to the magic of this evening.
